Max, Duke, and their owners are going on a vacation while Snowball is rescuing a Tiger named Hu, and Gidget learns how to be cat.

The Movie was announced in 2016 , the same year that the first movie came out , Louis C.K { the original voice of Max } was going to voice Max but in November 2017 , Illumination announce that Louis C.K will not voice Max so Louis was replaced by Patton Oswalt.

- The Secret Life of Pets will be the second Illumination film to become a franchise, after Despicable Me.
- This is the last Illumination film to be released in theaters (until Sing 2) due to the Coronavirus (A.K.A. the COVID-19).
- There were scenes that are not in the final film such as When Leonard have a party.
- This is the last Illumination film to have the 1967 MPAA logo in the end credits.
